Peruvian prosecutors have submitted charges against President Dina Boluarte, who is suspected of corruption, to Congress, Reuters reported.
The Peruvian Prosecutor General's Office announced this on the 27th local time, saying that there were charges of "passive bribery" in connection with the suspicion that President Boluarte illegally acquired expensive watches, including Rolex watches.
President Boluarte has been under investigation by prosecutors following media reports that he wore at least 14 expensive watches, including a Rolex worth 19 million won, over a two-year period, including while he was vice president, and the circumstances of his acquisition were unclear.
Accordingly, the prosecution searched and seized the president's home and the presidential palace, and President Voluarte was summoned and interrogated by the prosecutors last month.
In relation to this, in the Peruvian Congress last month, opposition party members proposed a bill to impeach the president, but it was not passed due to opposition from conservative and right-wing lawmakers.
President Boluarte claims that the Rolex watches in question were borrowed from local officials.
